Why This Matters

The facts about breast cancer are alarming:

  • 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer
  • Breast cancer is the 2nd highest cancer among women (skin cancer is first)
  • During the 2020 pandemic, there was a 50% decrease in breast cancers being diagnosed due to lack of testing
  • When caught early, the five-year survival rate is 90%

That's why the Adams County Medical Foundation sponsors Car for the Cureโ€”to ensure no woman in our county goes without screening because of cost.

Pink Car for the Cure

How the Program Works

The Adams County Medical Foundation sponsors the annual Car for the Cure at our Annual Gala fundraising event. Here's how it works:

  1. A local car dealership generously donates a vehicle each year
  2. C103 Radio station takes the pink car to community events throughout the year to promote the program and raise funds
  3. Community members sign the car at events across Adams County
  4. The "Pink Car" is auctioned off as part of the Live Auction at the Annual Gala
  5. 100% of proceeds fund mammograms and breast ultrasounds for eligible patients

Who We Help

Funds raised pay for mammograms and breast ultrasounds for Adams County patients who:

  • Have no health insurance
  • Have a health insurance deductible greater than $500.00

The Critical Importance of Early Detection

"Mammograms do not prevent breast cancer, but they can save lives by finding breast cancer as early as possible."
โ€” Susan Greenstein Orel, M.D.

Mammography plays a critical part in diagnosing breast cancer. In the past, breast cancer was often found when a woman came in with a lump. Today, cancers detected through mammography are usually:

  • Found early, before they can be felt by the patient
  • Smaller than cancers found by patients
  • Have much lower levels of lymph node involvement

This early detection is why it is extremely important for women to receive their mammograms in a timely mannerโ€”the five-year survivor rate is 90% when caught in the early stages.

The Pink Car in Action

Where Every Dollar Goes

Car for the Cure is vital to Adams County. 100% of funds raised pay directly for:

  • Diagnostic mammograms for eligible patients
  • Breast ultrasounds for eligible patients
  • Screenings that catch cancer early, when treatment is most effective

The Adams County Medical Foundation takes no administrative cutโ€”every dollar goes straight to providing life-saving screenings.
